10/8/2009 - Espaldon Honored as Adopted Son of Imus, Cavite
Holds meetings with national, business leaders
Senator James V. Espaldon was honored last night by Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi and the Municipal Government of Imus City, Cavite, Philippines during ceremonies marking the 234th founding of the city of Imus. Espaldon, recognized for his outstanding achievement in leadership, was named an Adopted Son of Imus and was also named an Honorary Citizen of Imus by the 10-member municipal council.
Imus City, located within the province of Cavite, is the hometown of Dr. Leticia Virata Espaldon, mother of Senator Espaldon and former director of the Department of Public Health and Social Services. Senator Espaldon spent two years as a child living in Imus. The Imus Gawad Parangal 2009 ceremony recognized 21 individuals for their outstanding achievement in their respective fields and occupations. Senator Espaldon was honored for his leadership achievements as a lawyer and a senator. Other awardees included Major Roderick I. Santulan, United States Air Force; Dr. Esmeraldo T. Ilem and Dr. Teodulo M. Topacio, Jr.
Additionally, Senator Espaldon has held several meetings with local officials and dignitaries including former President Fidel V. Ramos. Espaldon is working to arrange a medical mission and delivery of medicine and medical equipment to disaster stricken areas. Details of the disaster relief effort are forthcoming as Espaldon will meet with local hospital officials on Friday, October 9th.
