12/31/2009 - Yigo Catholic Church Donates to Disaster Relief
Jose Rios Middle School raises over $400
The Season of Giving continues as two organization made recent donations to the ongoing typhoon relief efforts. The parish faithful of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Santa Bernadita Chapel in Yigo made a donation of $776.48 to the Ayuda Foundation to support the joint efforts of the Foundation and Senator Espaldon to deliver medical equipment, supplies and medicine to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City, Philippines. Father Jeff San Nicolas, Pastor of the Yigo parish, presented Senator Espaldon with the check.
Additionally, students at Jose L.G. Rios Middle School in Piti held a penny drive and successfully raised $433.75 for the typhoon victims. Senator Espaldon, who accepted the check in behalf of the Ayuda Foundation, explained to students how meaningful their donation was, and how the $400+ dollars would be leveraged into $10,000.00 worth of medical supplies from cooperating non-profit organizations in the mainland.
A 40 foot container is currently enroute from MedShare’s Western Distribution Center in San Leandro, California to the Philippines. The one thousand-plus pieces of medical supplies and equipment are going to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City, which as MedShare Western Region Executive Director Chuck Haupt explains, “was greatly impacted by the recent typhoon that hit the Philippines. More than $8M in flood damage hampered their ability to deliver care. This shipment, sponsored by the Ayuda Foundation, will help them rebuild their capacity to serve their community.” The container is expected to land in the Philippines on January 11, 2010.
The recent donations will be pooled together with other donations to secure shipment of a 20 foot container of medicines from MAP International. MedShare and MAP International are cooperating nonprofit organizations working with the Ayuda Foundation to leverage funds and secure the badly needed medicines, supplies and medical equipment.
